About the Event

About The state of Rampur separated from the Oudh on 7th October 1774. This month, as they complete 241 years of their existence, we visit Rampur to experience the most unique Library, the Rampur Raza Library. This library is a Treasure house of Knowledge, which contains rare and valuable collection of manuscripts, historical documents, specimens of Islamic calligraphy, miniature paintings, astronomical instrucments and rare illustrated works in Arabic and Persian. Rampur's Raza Library also contains printed works in Sanskrit, Hindi, Urdu, Pashto (having the original manuscript of the first translation of the Qur'an in addition to other important books/documents), Tamil and Turkish, and approximately 30,000 printed books (including periodicals) in various other languages.
The Rohilla State of Rampur was established by Nawab Faizullah Khan on 7 October 1774 in the presence of British Commander Colonel Champion, and remained a pliant state under British protection thereafter. It was a buffer state between Marathas and Oudh, that British could control.
The Nawabs of Rampur were art lovers. Post 1857, artisans from across country started fleeing to Rampur and settled under Nawab Rampur's patronage.

The Trip

We shall start from Delhi and head to Rampur. We'll spend the day at Raza Library inside Fort, clicking photographs and appreciating literature. Mosque, Imambara and other structures are in vicinity, within the Fort of Rampur. By evening, we shall head back to Delhi. Travel time will be 4-5 Hours each side.
All other historic buildings of Rampur are being used by the Rampur Royal Family, hence we will be able to see the Fort structures only. On the brighter side, the Library is so vast, that we will not be able to spare ourselves for anything else, once we enter the knowledge-heaven.

Charges

Charges for the trip are Rs. 3,500 per person (non-refundable). This includes travel, food and monument tickets.
